Counter Culture
| The young people of the 60s questioned the countries materialism and social and political norms. They wanted to try out new ideas and new lifestyles and this is what came to be known as the counter culture. They did this with music and other ideas to try and make the world better. The war and the civil rights movement challenged the way of life and a lot of the young people changed their lifestyles to be nonconformists and more sexually open. Of course the adults didn't agree with this and it scared them all. The counter culture lifestyle integrated many ideals of the time: peace, love, harmony, music, mysticism, and beliefs outside of the Judeo-Christian religion. Meditation, yoga, and drugs were considered ways to become more spiritual and attached to god to the people called hippies. |
